Prophetic ministry calls for both reverence and discernment. Scripture records God calling people to speak His word. It also tells God’s people to test what is spoken. A title alone is never a substitute for truth, character, and accountability.

Called to serve. Jeremiah describes receiving a call and a word from the Lord (Jeremiah 1:4–10). Elisha’s call appears in 1 Kings 19:19–21, and Amos describes being drawn from his ordinary work (Amos 7:14–15). Their stories do not follow one human career path.

Faithful to the Word. The prophetic voice in Scripture may bring instruction, warning, correction, and hope. Deuteronomy 18:20–22 addresses the seriousness of speaking in God’s name. Deuteronomy 13:1–5 makes clear that signs do not excuse a message that draws people away from the Lord.

Received with discernment. Scripture includes dreams and visions (Numbers 12:6), yet every claim deserves careful examination.
